Project 2 (2021)

Honing steel handle redesign

Reinventing the Honing Steel Handle — Precision, Control, and Safety for Home Chefs

Most honing rods on the market feel like an afterthought—awkward to grip, vague in how they’re meant to be held, and often equipped with flimsy plastic guards that offer more decoration than protection. For this project, I set out to redesign the honing steel handle from the ground up, giving home cooks the same sense of confidence and control that professional chefs rely on.

This new handle focuses on intuitive ergonomics, safe hand positioning, and a power grip that actually fits the human hand. With a purposeful finger guard and clear guidance built directly into the form, the design elevates sharpening from a clumsy chore to a precise, comfortable, and safe kitchen ritual.

Discover how thoughtful grip geometry, material selection, and user-centered design come together to reimagine one of the most overlooked tools in the kitchen.
